Uses & benefits of Deep Blue Essential Oil

According to recent studies, more than half of us are sufferers of ongoing discomfort. Deep Blue is dōTERRA’s soothing solution to this challenge.

dōTERRA® Deep Blue is a soothing solution for sore muscles and joints. Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, Helichrysum, and Osmanthus work together to soothe and relax muscles and ease achy joints. Its effects are deep and penetrating with sustained results. Once gently rubbed into the area of discomfort, Deep Blue’s cool therapeutic benefit will be felt almost immediately. Deep Blue provides instant relief for the occasional discomfort of tired, sore, and worn-down muscles and joints.

 

 The following Essential oils are included in the Soothing Blend:

  • Wintergreen: This oil has cortisone-like properties, making it naturally analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, and warming, among other qualities. It is said to be beneficial for arthritis, rheumatism, tendinitis, bone spurs, frozen shoulder, torn rotator cuff, cartilage injury and general pain or inflammation of the musclular and skeletal system.
  • Camphor: Camphor is naturally pain-relieving and an anti-inflammatory. It has be found to be useful for arthritis, rheumatism, muscles aches and pains, sprains and even bruises.
  • Peppermint: Peppermint is anti-inflammatory to damaged tissues and has a soothing and cooling affect that often helps arthritis and rheumatism. It’s also said to be pain-relieving and antispasmodic, and beneficial for fatigue, cramps or Charley Horses, headaches and migraines, myelin sheath, osteoporosis, paralysis, sciatica, tennis elbow, and other areas of tendinitis.
  • Blue Tansy: This oil is naturally pain-relieving and an anti-inflammatory. It may also help with low blood pressure, arthritis, and rheumatism.
  • German Chamomile: It’s been found to be pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, and an antioxidant. It helps with congestion traditionally, and is found to support joint health and arthritis.
  • Helichrysum: This oil is beneficial to the circulatory system, an imperative part of healing of the joints and muscles, found to be anti-catarrhal in nature, and a powerful anti-inflammatory. It’s often used for sciatica, bruises of all kind (including to the bone), tendonitis, tissue pain and repair, detoxification, and more. Spiritually and emotionally it is said to help one release anger and move into growth and healing.
  • Osmanthus: In Chinese medicine, osmanthus is used to reduce phlegm and remove blood stasis.

According to Modern Essentials, the typical properties of the Soothing Blend include:

  • Wintergreen: Analgesic, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, antifungal, antiseptic, antispasmodic, disinfectant, diuretic, stimulant (bone) and warming.
  • Camphor: Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, cardiac soother, carminative, diuretic,
    febrifuge (reduces fever), insecticide, laxative, stimulant and vulnerary (speeds wound healing).
  • Peppermint: Analgesic, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, ant repellent, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, antiseptic, antispasmodic.
  • Blue Tansy: Anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, analgesic/anesthetic, anti-itching.
  • German Chamomile: Anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, antispasmodic, calming, antiseptic, and relaxing.
  • Helichrysum: Anti-inflammatory and soothing.

Arthritis
Massage 1-2 drops of essential oils for pain into the area of concern daily or as desired.

Back Pain
Massage several drops into the area, and apply a hot or cold compress.

Bone Pain
Massage 1-2 drops into the area several times a day or as desired.

Bone Spurs
Massage 1-2 drops over the area of concern 2-3 times a day. Use consistently in conjunction with physical therapy to ensure proper physical alignment.

Bruises
Lightly apply 1 drop over the bruise, careful not to put any significant pressure on it. (Massaging bruises is a no-no.)

Bunions
Massage 1-2 drops into the feet twice a day.

Bursitis
Massage 1-2 drops over the area as desired or several times a day.

Fever
Apply 1 drop over the forehead or back of the neck up to every hour or as desired. Careful of the eyes…it might make them water!

Fibromyalgia
Massage 1-2 drops of essential oils for pain into the area of concern or the soles of the feet daily or as desired.

Herniated Discs
Apply 1-2 drops over the area of concern several times a day.

Inflammation
Massage 1-2 drops over the area, moving with the lymphatic system (toward the heart). Also consider an oil like spearmint.

Joint Pain
Massage 1-2 drops into the area of concern followed with a hot or cold compress, heating pad or ice pack.

Joint Stiffness
Massage 1-2 drops into the area of concern using either heat or cold afterward.

Meniscus (torn or injured)
Massage 1-2 drops into the area daily or as it’s bothering you.

Neuralgia
Massage 1-2 drops of essential oils for pain over the area or into the reflex points of the feet.

Muscle Aches/Pains
Massage 1-2 drops over the area of concern as needed or several times a day.

Muscle Tension/Relaxation
Massage 1-2 drops over the area of concern as needed or several times a day.

Pain (Acute)
Massage 1-2 drops of essential oils for pain over the area of concern and follow with ice for 24 hours. Seek medical treatment.

Pain (Chronic)
Apply several drops over the area and apply a hot compress or heating pad for 30 minutes. Do this as desired, up to several times a day.

Scoliosis
Massage several drops daily along the spine and any secondary sources of discomfort associated with scoliosis.

Sciatica
Massage 1-2 drops of essential oils for pain over the hips and low back twice a day or as needed.

Sprains
Gently massage several drops into the area up to every 2-3 hours.

Tendonitis/Tennis Elbow
Massage 1-2 drops into the area daily and as needed.

Tension Headaches
Massage several drops over the area of concern and surrounding or related areas as needed.

Whiplash
Gently massage several drops of essential oils for pain over any area of pain, as well as surrounding areas several times a day.

 

Practical Applications:

• Rub on muscles before and after exercise to reduce discomfort.

• After long hours on the computer, try rubbing Deep Blue essential oil blend on the shoulders and neck to recover and ease muscle tension.

• Massage Deep Blue with a few drops of carrier oil onto the growing kids’ legs before bedtime to help with occasional aches associated with growth spurts.

• Rub Deep Blue on lower back muscles after a day of heavy lifting at work or during a move.

Directions for use:

Topical use: Apply to desired area. Dilute with dōTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity.
