Why do I use Essential Oils?
Simply put-they work! I have been in the alternative healthcare industry for over 15 years. I have researched, educated myself and used herbs and essential oils for most of that time and I firmly believe in their power and effectiveness to heal, calm, soothe, relax and empower. I have witnessed these benefits in others and experienced it for myself time and time again with my health and the health of my family!
If you know me, and this site…then you know that I like Simple! Simply Living Simply is all about living in a more simple, uncomplicated and in a more natural and healthy manner. We are committed to living more organically and natural (not processed) with our recipes and meals, using more natural homemade cleaners in the home, choosing our beauty and body products carefully and crafting homemade when necessary and finally choosing more natural and herbal/essential oil products for our health and wellness.
How much more simple can you get than using the plants that God placed on this earth for us to use? They are more pure than what you find in the store or in a pharmacy, I know what my products and medicines have in them, the ingredient list isn’t a mile long, we don’t have adverse reactions, and we save a ton of money in the process! Simple!
What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are natural compounds that are found in the seeds, bark, rinds, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants. They always come from the Life of the plant. They give plants, flowers, fruit their aromatic smell and healing qualities.
If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, walked by a field of lavender, or enjoyed the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. Those natural essences are released through steam distillation, where the steam is circulated through the plant under pressure so that the oils separate from the plant and combine with the steam. As the steam mixture cools, the water and oils naturally separate and the oil is collected in its pure form=essential oils!
Essential Oils Through History:
Essential oils have been used throughout history for a wide variety of wellness applications. The Egyptians were some of the first people to use aromatic essential oils extensively in medical practice, beauty treatment, food preparation, and in religious ceremony. Frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh and cinnamon were considered very valuable cargo along caravan trade routes and even exchanged for gold.
- The Greeks used essential oils in their practice of therapeutic massage and aromatherapy.
- The Romans also used aromatic oils to promote health and personal hygiene.
- The Persians began to refine distillation methods for extracting essential oils from aromatic plants.
- Essential oil extracts were used throughout the dark ages in Europe for their anti-bacterial and fragrant properties.
